Live sporting events represent a ready-made audience with recurring revenue streams for broadcasters. The organising and coordination of resources for a live event production requires a multitude of resources to be sent to the venue. These include both expensive technical equipment and highly skilled human resources. This is not a trivial task and neither one are commodity resources.
The introduction of REMI Production for live sports broadcasting have led to improved venue resource utilisation and a significant reduction in operational costs. It has reduced setup time and centralising production studios have allowed for more live events to be produced.
The shift in operational model is enabled by high quality and low latency transport technologies to carry the images, sound, and return feeds, along with camera controls, tally, and intercom. All of which are required for typical live events broadcasting.
Flexible REMI Workflow
The solution caters for fully IP workflows or traditional video inputs via BNC interfaces or a combination. High quality and low latency compression can be applied where there are bandwidth-constrained links. Ethernet ports are also available for data services.
The small form factor MDP can be cascaded to expand the number of services. This scalability gives users the option to grow as necessary and only use the required resources.
HD and Beyond
Various video formats are supported including; DVB-ASI, SD, HD, 3G-HD, and 4K. There is also the JPEG2000 HDR codec available for use on High Dynamic Range (HDR) HD video signals.
The MDP-3020 Series is NEBS Level 3 certified to meet and exceed the toughest conditions expected in outside broadcast environments. Built-in test signals are available for both Video and Data services to provide confidence monitoring for occasional use links. The customer gets assurance that high value services will be up and working when they need it.
The Media Links REMI solution offers broadcasters, telecoms, and network providers a cost effective alternative to traditional live sports broadcasting. The MDP-3020 platform offers flexible configuration to cater for a variety of outside broadcast configurations and requirements.
